Glendore Child Care Centre

This building contains three multi-purpose playrooms which open onto a wide verandah and the landscaped playground. Each playroom has access to cot rooms, nappy change, toilets and bottle preparation areas. The centre also includes offices, a staff room, staff toilets, laundry and a kitchen.

This centre provides a valuable community facility in an area of growth for relatively low capital cost. The design of the buildings has provided a distinctive and attractive appearance while keeping within the small scale of the surrounding houses. The long, low horizontal lines together with the future growth of the landscape should ensure a centre which makes a positive and harmonious contribution to its surroundings.

The centre has to comply with strict economic parameters due to Council's limited funding for the project. The cost difficulties increased by the natural fall of the site and the Councils' desire for the building to be on one level. The centre creates and interesting arrangement of forms within the strict budget limits.
